I have decided in my heart and mind to be excellent in all my ways and in everything I engage my hands in. So help me God.
How many times have you heard of the word "Excellence?" Let me guess, countless times, right? If you decide to just let this word pass like a wind, it will, and it will never be of great importance or rather hold as much weight as it carries.
Jessica is very beautiful and one of the most amazing souls you can ever think of. She is born again and loves the Lord with all her might and heart. Her work is to take care of the church in which she fellowships and to manage all the ministerial duties. What stands out for her is how excellent she is in performing these duties. She would clean the church all by herself and the prayer rooms that are situated just outside the hall and ensures that there was no trace of any dirt whatsoever. The church was pleased with her work and had to rent her a house around the church so that they can get her services any time during the week. Years went by and Jessica heard the Lord telling her that her season to serve in that church was over and had to move to another location. The pastoral team and some of the members of the church were not so happy about the scheduled departure because they would never find someone else who was as excellent as Jessica. A ladylike Jessica, who shall be?
God hates mediocrity and that is why He allowed us to earn knowledge in every way possible and also ask for wisdom if anyone lacks. We should be committed to doing the best even when it hurts. Learn to stand out from your colleagues because God created us to stand out and not to fit in. Being excellent does not mean that you have to be perfect, you only need to use all the resources, wisdom and information that you require to execute your assignment to the maximum. If you get assigned to sweep a room, sweep it clean as if your life depends on it, run that errand for your boss as if he is about to increase your pay, give that weekly report as if it will be cast in the international news. Some Christians are the obstacles to their blessings. This is by doing mediocre work in positions that God has entrusted them in.
Daniel was a great young man who found favor in the eyes of King Darius. He was among the 3 chief ministers that were appointed by the King himself to rule with him, the other two were supposed to report to him because he was trusted more than them. Daniel had exceptional qualities which distinguished him from the rest, therefore, the king had plans to set him over the whole kingdom. This story is found in the book of Daniel chapter 6. Later we see his colleagues who were envious of him and wanted to destroy his reputation and bring him down from the governmental position but they could not just find a ground to push charges against him. Because he was not corrupt and neither was he negligent, he was found to be very trustworthy. The character of Daniel explains clearly what excellence means. We can say that he was not lazy, he never entertained procrastination and also had the character of owning up to his own mistakes.
How many times have we ran late for an appointment and did not apologize for it, how many times have we procrastinated issues that we were supposed to deal with then and there? Daniel did not do mediocre work which resulted in promotion from one position to the other. (Read the whole book of Daniel. ) He avoided corruption, he was not negligent and maybe he also knew how to keep time for appointments. Let us pause and reflect on whether we carry the same traits where we are positioned to work in. Excellence will make you known in and out of the city because it is a character of God, it will surely sell you out and promote you.
God is excellent in His ways and expects his children to be excellent too. Since the beginning of time, God has expressed how excellent He is. Genesis 1:31 says that God looked at everything He has made and it was very good…..Imagine if the creation was mediocre, that we as human beings would eat but can't excrete, that we were supposed to queue in heaven to be served food every day. I cant imagine how long it would take for my turn to be served, funny right? Most often than not, God has led with an example of excellence and He expects us to do the same as we are called by his name.
I will conclude by urging Christians not to receive God's grace in vain and produce mediocre results. He has given us the spirit of wisdom and if anyone lacks it, he should ask him who gives it freely. Refuse to be lukewarm, lest will be spit from the Lord's mouth. If you accept to take responsibility, ensure you produce excellent results.
Will you take the challenge?
Wow great work Speci. Great Grace as you purpose to bring something new for God's people.
